Delta Air Lines Cancels 245 A220 Flights After Engine Explodes Mid-Air

Cancellations Affect Minneapolis-St. Paul

38-Year-Old Airbus Involved

DFW International Airport (DFW) announced that Delta Air Lines has canceled 245 A220 flights after an engine exploded mid-air on one of the aircraft. The aircraft involved was a 38-year-old Airbus A220-300. The incident occurred above the skies of Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Delta had an average of 56 A220-300 flights per day in the past week. The 15-strong fleet typically operated four flights per day. Delta has quickly built up its A220 fleet, having already taken delivery of 28 A220-100s. However, the airline has only been flying the aircraft for a few months.

The cause of the engine explosion is still under investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the incident.
