Over 200 Leaders Join Forces to Enhance Urban Resilience

Building Resilience for the Challenges of Urban Life

In 2013, The Rockefeller Foundation established the 100 Resilient Cities program to assist cities in developing resilience to physical, social, and economic challenges. The Resilient Cities Index 2023 Assesses the ability of 25 global cities to withstand and recover from a variety of shocks and stresses across four key themes.

Shared Knowledge and Expertise

Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030), a unique cross-stakeholder initiative, aims to enhance local resilience through advocacy, knowledge sharing, and experience exchange.

Partners and Practitioners Unite

MCR2030 brings together over 200 Chief Resilience Officers, partners, practitioners, and researchers to collaborate and develop strategies for urban resilience.

Key Focus Areas

  • Physical challenges (e.g., natural disasters, climate change)
  • Social challenges (e.g., poverty, inequality, crime)
  • Economic challenges (e.g., unemployment, economic downturns)

Evolving Needs

As urban areas experience increasing population and asset concentration, they face an expanding range of interconnected shocks and stresses, necessitating comprehensive resilience-building measures.

Global Collaboration

The 25 cities featured in the Resilient Cities Index 2023 represent a diverse spectrum of urban environments and challenges, fostering global knowledge exchange and best practice sharing.

Building Capacity and Resilience

Through collaboration and knowledge sharing, MCR2030 empowers cities to enhance their resilience, safeguard their populations and assets, and thrive amidst ongoing challenges.
